Scrap for Help May Reveal

Happy May Day, dear readers!  With the first of the month comes a new challenge from Scrap for Help.

Supplies: cardstock by Wausau Paper; all designer paper by Amy Tangerine for American Crafts; stamp by Stampin' Up; black ink by Hero Arts; yellow ink by Clearsnap; acrylic paint & Distress Stain by Ranger; die cut by Archivers; alphabet stickers by Doodlebug Design; pens by Zig; wire by Artistic Wire; ribbon roses by Berwick Offray; button by Blumenthal-Lansing; tulle by Wyla; beads by Blue Echo Beads; upcycled paper clips, fortune cookie slip; Hong Kong tea packing slip; envelope, postage stamp, charm, & napkin.  If you want to know, the napkin is from Caribou Coffee.  :)

This month we challenge you to use a paper napkin in your project.  The design team has some lovely examples for you on the Scrap for Help blog.  Remember, you can make anything--a card, a layout, or an altered item.

I decided to use a napkin to make a flower embellishment for my layout.  To do this, I first cut a strip (about two centimeters high) from the side of the napkin.  I also cut a circle from a bit of scrap paper and set it aside.  I altered the napkin strip with ink, stain, and stamping, to match my layout.  I cut fringe along one side of the napkin.  Then, I spread a thin layer of craft glue on the paper circle.  I glued the napkin strip to the paper, coiling the strip along the edge and working my way toward the center of the circle.  After the glue dried, I topped the flower with circles of tulle and a button.  I fluffed up the fringe, and the flower was ready to add to my page.

The flower adds a lot of dimension to the page.  However, since it's so light, it adds very little bulk.  It's a win-win situation.

I was in the mood to apply some of my beading skills, so you will see plenty of beads and wire work on the layout.

To create a playful, informal, "doodly" feel for the page, I used supplies from Amy Tangerine and Doodlebug Design.

I also used a lot of upcycled items, like this pink owl from a charm bracelet.

I hope that you will be able to play along with us for this challenge!  I look forward to seeing your creations.
