<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">Supplies: stamp & ink from Hero Arts, cardstock from Neenah Paper; stickers & enamel dots from October Afternoon; pen from Foray; journaling line template & corner punch from Creative Memories; twine, charm, & sequins from my stash, fabric tag upcycled from old clothing; household mini stapler.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I made this page to showcase a few late-summer photos from the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. I love this time of year, when the rich, warm colors of autumn are beginning to appear, but the weather is still nice and warm. It's the best of both worlds.</span></span>Denise Pricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04627425586228447868noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6288536973283725109.post-57164962041651750032017-10-27T07:31:00.000-05:002017-10-27T07:31:03.663-05:00What I Did Last Summer<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Hello! It has been a while since my last post. I'm still having trouble with wrist pain that comes and goes. It has not forced me to stop crafting, but it has forced me to craft "smarter." One thing that I continue to experiment with is a smaller, easy-to-handle album size for my scrapbooking.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">Album by Mara Mi; page sleeves by Target.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">This past summer my family took a vacation in the state of North Dakota, and I made a mini album to showcase our favorite photos from the trip. I used a mini 3-ring binder with page sleeves that measure 5.5x8.5" (half the size of a standard 8.5x11" sheet of paper). I photographed the album next to a tea spoon so that you could get an idea of the size. It's a lightweight album that is easy to hold in the hand.</span></span></span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9AVKlrE1wt8/WfIIpqrc-KI/AAAAAAAAJYA/Q97yGvwC2qsFq63NLMCKu66Zg58uNnNbQCEwYBhgL/s1600/ndspoon.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1596" data-original-width="1600" height="398" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9AVKlrE1wt8/WfIIpqrc-KI/AAAAAAAAJYA/Q97yGvwC2qsFq63NLMCKu66Zg58uNnNbQCEwYBhgL/s400/ndspoon.JPG" width="400" /></a></span></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Most of my time in North Dakota was spent visiting relatives, but I did some sightseeing as well. Here is a page commemorating my visit to "The World's Larget Bison" statue.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">Cardstock by Bazzill; navy blue paper & mottled orange paper by Michael's; patterned paper by Doodlebug; floral stickers by Simple Stories; alphabet stickers by Lily Bee.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Most of the landscape I saw on vacation was very flat, since North Dakota is a Great Plains state. That flat land makes the sky look so much bigger! </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ki-eNNEZ2aM/WfIIpL8fEnI/AAAAAAAAJYA/fZy0nG6uJKEcMl8A9secByyZhP2dd1KBwCEwYBhgL/s1600/ndplains.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1093" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ki-eNNEZ2aM/WfIIpL8fEnI/AAAAAAAAJYA/fZy0nG6uJKEcMl8A9secByyZhP2dd1KBwCEwYBhgL/s640/ndplains.JPG" width="435" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">Cardstock by Bazzill; map paper by Echo Park; cloud paper & polaroid paper by Doodlebug; alphabet stickers by Lily Bee; pen by Zig;</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The rare occasions when a hill or a valley broke up that flat landscape definitely warranted a photo.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xiyp29TPSic/WfIIqA2DbUI/AAAAAAAAJYA/xhcqEtILUugB21zMzD_a1w2NsT2wk-JuACEwYBhgL/s1600/ndvalley.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1158" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xiyp29TPSic/WfIIqA2DbUI/AAAAAAAAJYA/xhcqEtILUugB21zMzD_a1w2NsT2wk-JuACEwYBhgL/s640/ndvalley.JPG" width="460" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">Background paper by Michael's; green patterned paper, tree sticker, & alphabet stickers from Simple Stories; plaid papers from Lawn Fawn; fussy-cut rainbow paper from Doodlebug; curve cutting template from Creative Memories; pen from Zig.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I loved working with this smaller page size, and I definitely plan to do it again sometime. An added benefit was that the 3-ring format allowed me to add exactly the number of pages I needed. I ended up using 11 page sleeves to house a total of 41 photos. I hope you enjoyed this little peek at my North Dakota album! The three pages that I've shown you here are some of my favorites.</span></span>Denise Pricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04627425586228447868noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6288536973283725109.post-55272735485580586152016-05-13T07:13:00.000-05:002016-05-13T07:13:01.640-05:00Blogoversary<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">It's my five-year blogoversary!!! <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">~another library photo, of course~ :)</span></span> </td></tr>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Due to my wrist problems, it has been a<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> few months</span> since I last blogged. Over the last few months I have come to realize just how necessary wrists are for day<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">-</span>to<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">-</span>day living. Wrist movement is involved in turning doorknobs, using scissors, grasping utensils, pressing buttons, etc. Although, my wrists have gotten better over the last few months, I still feel a degree of pain when doing all of these things, and more. Does this mean that I am ready to give up scrapbooking?</span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">No, of course not. :) It just means that I am working on ways to make scrapbooking easier on my wrists. After all, a hobby is no fun if it causes pain. Right now my main strategy is to scrapbook on a smaller scale. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">T</span>hose 12x12" albums are HEAVY<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">, right?</span> <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">So for this year's album I am tr<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ying a 5.5x8.5<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">" sp<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">iral bound <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">paper <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">pad<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">, which is m<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">uch lighter<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> and easier on th<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">e wrists.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span><br />

I hope that those of you who are celebrating holidays right now are having a good time. I'm enjoying the Christmas season and spending lots of time with family, but I cannot let the month of December come to an end without sharing my last <a href="http://greendenise.blogspot.com/p/easy-destashing-ideas-for-2015.html">de-stashing tip</a> of the year!</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rUrPstoCdWY/VoK5fEUIrKI/AAAAAAAAJJg/h7aexPReK9I/s1600/future8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rUrPstoCdWY/VoK5fEUIrKI/AAAAAAAAJJg/h7aexPReK9I/s320/future8.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">This month the tip is to use sticker negatives to make your own stencils. I bet you have some half-used sticker sheets sitting around in your stash right now, don't you? Well, why not put the used bits to work as stencils? If you fill in these stencil shapes with Stickles (glitter glue), you will end up with shimmery shapes that add a little bit of wow-factor to any project. I used the negatives from star-shaped stickers to create the glittery stars that you see in the detail shots above and below.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Those detail shots come a scrapbook page called "Back to the Future Day."</span></span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">You may ask, what is Back to the Future Day? Well, it took place on October 21, 2015. That's the date when the film <i>Back to the Future Part II</i> is supposed to have taken place. Back in the 1980's, when the Back to the Future movies came out, the year 2015 seemed unimaginable far in the future. But now...it's here! This is what I had to say in my journalling on this scrapbook page: "In proud Gen-Xer style, Scott & I celebrated 'Back to the Future Day' by watching the original movie. Maybe the second movie in the series would have been more appropriate to watch, since it's set in 2015. But we were in the mood for the original, and we sure enjoyed watching it." Back to the Future Day ended up being a fun movie night/date night for my husband and me.</span></span><br />
<br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I think you'll believe me when I say that creating this title block out of all sorts of little bits and pieces was lots of fun. The TV sticker with a heart on the screen is my favorite part. :) </span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1x92qVrbC_s/VoK5r2y_EzI/AAAAAAAAJJo/L884oS_Qi7Y/s1600/future4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1x92qVrbC_s/VoK5r2y_EzI/AAAAAAAAJJo/L884oS_Qi7Y/s320/future4.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I printed out a couple of Internet memes to use as page embellishments. This is a good way to add interest to a scrapbook page on the cheap. Oh, and by the way, if you click to enlarge the photo above, you can learn how to write the phrase "Thirty years ago, lightning struck that clock tower," in Russian. :)</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rUrPstoCdWY/VoK5fEUIrKI/AAAAAAAAJJk/lZguX0lxZHA/s1600/future8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rUrPstoCdWY/VoK5fEUIrKI/AAAAAAAAJJk/lZguX0lxZHA/s320/future8.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Anyway, back to the whole point of this blog post--stencilling with sticker negatives and Stickles. To do this, start by trimming around the sticker negative to separate it from the rest of the sticker sheet. Next, stick the negative shape to your clothes a few times to make it less sticky. Then gently press the shape onto your project and squirt Stickles into the shape. You may need to use a paintbrush or a small paper scrap to spread the Stickles around and fill the shape completely. Once the shapes is filled in, quickly and carefully remove the sticker negative. Then, all you have to do is wait for the Stickles to dry, which is probably the hardest part of the whole process. :) </span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kMHugd4jSQ4/VoPvGIsCbsI/AAAAAAAAJKQ/FbyOGjpkI54/s1600/novb71b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kMHugd4jSQ4/VoPvGIsCbsI/AAAAAAAAJKQ/FbyOGjpkI54/s200/novb71b.jpg" width="200" /></a></span></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Before I sign off, I also want to mention that this layout was inspired by the <a href="http://berry71bleu.blogspot.ie/2015/11/vintage-november-challenge.html">Berry71Bleu November mood board</a>. Although I did not manage to finish my layout in time to participate in B71B's November challenge, I still wanted to share the gorgeous mood board (pictured above). Maybe it will inspire you as much as it inspired me. In any case, take care and enjoy the last few days of 2015! Happy crafting. :)</span></span><br />

Today I have just a bit more of my outgoing mail to share: two pocket letters. First up is this autumn-themed letter. </span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Supplies: patterned paper from Doodlebug Design, alphabet stickers from October Afternoon, cat stickers from Mrs. Grossman's, pumpkin sticker from Mello Smello.</td></tr>

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span></span>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AaIB3_xioT4/VnLgGV6tuSI/AAAAAAAAJIA/Wsa-MpGv5fM/s1600/pocket2_v1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AaIB3_xioT4/VnLgGV6tuSI/AAAAAAAAJIA/Wsa-MpGv5fM/s640/pocket2_v1.JPG" width="480" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Supplies: patterned paper from October Afternoon, to/from tag from Crate Paper, washi tape from 3M/Scotch, snowman stickers from my stash, all other stickers from Mrs. Grossman's.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">And here is a Christmas-themed pocket letter that I recently mailed. As you see, I use baseball card holders for my pocket letters. My process is simple: I decorate the front of the card holder and hide the handwritten letter behind the decorations. <iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Ra6val6Vsjw/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ra6val6Vsjw?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Lately I've been hearing the song "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra6val6Vsjw">Sleigh Ride</a>" on the radio a lot. It's a good song. I especially like the lines that say, "<span style="background-color: white;">There's a special feeling nothing in the world can buy, when they pass around the coffee and the pumpkin pie.</span>" That is exactly how I felt last weekend, when I celebrated Thanksgiving.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jmKQJLGezaQ/Vl3SPuNWz5I/AAAAAAAAJEs/Xyzrcp2uDnI/s1600/3d3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jmKQJLGezaQ/Vl3SPuNWz5I/AAAAAAAAJEs/Xyzrcp2uDnI/s640/3d3.JPG" width="478" /></a></span></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Now Thanksgiving has passed, and Advent has begun. Our family put out our Christmas decorations, including the tree, on Sunday. I have a new ornament on the tree this year, and it's very different from the cross stitched ornaments that I've been sharing recently.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P52EuhvcLZk/Vl3SWXvyJjI/AAAAAAAAJE0/y-qXgkGPbRs/s1600/3d2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-P52EuhvcLZk/Vl3SWXvyJjI/AAAAAAAAJE0/y-qXgkGPbRs/s400/3d2.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Supplies: green paint from DecoArt, red paint & glitter from Ranger, star ribbon from Scrapbook Fantasies.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I made this ornament in a free class at the library. The class was on how to use a 3D printer, and each class participant could design one small item and print it. </span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uTd8-_0aoPU/Vl3SdotuMmI/AAAAAAAAJE8/goecojTRkHU/s1600/3d.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uTd8-_0aoPU/Vl3SdotuMmI/AAAAAAAAJE8/goecojTRkHU/s400/3d.JPG" width="400" /></a></span></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The ornament was white (as pictured above) when it came off the printer. After I brought it home, I painted it and glued on the ribbon hanger. As the ornament indicates, all this happened in 2014. However, our family <a href="http://greendenise.blogspot.com/2015/01/toward-simpler-2015.html">didn't put up a Christmas tree in 2014</a>, so I'm hanging the ornament for the first time in 2015.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I hope that the first day of December is off to a good start for you. <span style="font-size: large;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</tbody></table>
</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I've already scrapbooked and blogged about how much my son loved his <a href="http://greendenise.blogspot.com/2015/10/project-library-complete.html">summer library project</a>. But I also wanted to make a page that tells how much *I* love the library. On my scrapbook page I wrote: "I think I enjoyed the library project just as much as A. did. I explored parts of the county that were unfamiliar to me, checked out lots of library materials...& took lots of photos! Clockwise from top: Brookdale (photo by A.), Pierre Bottineau (selfie), and Southeast (selfie). A. & I had so much fun!"</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ib68okuATcU/VknfSMb-j_I/AAAAAAAAJA0/g8kBQzvyu00/s1600/hclib2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ib68okuATcU/VknfSMb-j_I/AAAAAAAAJA0/g8kBQzvyu00/s400/hclib2.jpg" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Brookdale, Pierre Bottineau, and Southeast are all branches of the <a href="http://www.hclib.org/about/locations">Hennepin County Library</a> (HCL) system. Librarians gave out HCL stickers to patrons this past summer, and I used my sticker as part of my title: "I Really Do Love My HCL."</span></span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">There is nothing better, in my opinion, than sipping a cup of hot tea or coffee and reading a book. The last book I read was a library book, which you can see in this photo. It's hard to wait for the new Star Wars movie to come out, so I've been getting my fix by reading some of the old novels. This one, called <i>The Crystal Star</i>, was very good. As for tea, lately I've gotten into cinnamon vanilla herbal tea, from the same company that makes the <a href="http://greendenise.blogspot.com/2015/11/joy.html">pumpkin spice tea</a> that I wrote about a couple weeks ago. The cinnamon vanilla tea has a rooibos base, and the tea is so aromatic and scrumptious!</span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Hello, everyone! Today I'm joining in with the <a href="http://alteredbooklover.blogspot.com/2015/11/t-stands-for-pumpkin-bread-and-tea.html">T Stands for Tuesday</a> blog hop, as I often do on Tuesdays. Today I actually am drinking tea, too. It's pumpkin spice decaf black tea.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yese8K9EB3Q/Vje5FQcGdHI/AAAAAAAAI_Y/Xn7iOUBeZCY/s1600/pumkin_v1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yese8K9EB3Q/Vje5FQcGdHI/AAAAAAAAI_Y/Xn7iOUBeZCY/s640/pumkin_v1.JPG" width="478" /></a></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><a href="http://greendenise.blogspot.com/2015/10/project-library-complete.html">Last time</a> I mentioned treating myself to a pumpkin spice latte from a coffee shop. That kind of "designer coffee" is too expensive for everyday consumption, though. This tea is a nice alternative for getting that autumn flavor at home and not blowing the budget. :)</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Xmc9_uARsPo/Vje5JQNdpGI/AAAAAAAAI_c/mjrcVC1Opuw/s1600/pupkin_v1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Xmc9_uARsPo/Vje5JQNdpGI/AAAAAAAAI_c/mjrcVC1Opuw/s640/pupkin_v1.JPG" width="425" /></a></span></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The little hang tag on each tea bag says "Cup of Joy," which I hope you can see in the above picture. It's appropriate, because drinking the spicy, warm tea really does give me feeling of autumn joy.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ugGtkj3VaXo/Vje3_XliMCI/AAAAAAAAI_M/woY91CUnTJw/s1600/joyornament.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ugGtkj3VaXo/Vje3_XliMCI/AAAAAAAAI_M/woY91CUnTJw/s640/joyornament.jpg" width="512" /></a></span></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The path from autumn joy to Christmas joy is short, and I have already started working on some handmade Christmas gifts. I can't show any of the gifts that I'm making now (just in case the gift recipients read my blog, which would ruin the surprise), but I thought it might be fun to show you some gifts that I made for last Christmas. Today, I'm showing you a Christmas ornament that I cross-stitched. I adapted the design from the book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Cross-Stitched-Cards-Holidays-Christmas/dp/1574213806"><i>Cross Stitched Cards for the Holidays</i></a>. The two robins and the word "joy" were actually three separate patterns in the book, but I thought that they would look good all together. </span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Hi, everyone! If you're new to my blog, then welcome. This week I am honored to be the guest designer at <a href="http://citycrafter.blogspot.com/">City Crafter Challenge blog</a>. The theme this week is a fun one: "Creatures of the Night." There are so many directions that you could go with this challenge. You could make something creepy, with a vampire image, or you could make something cute, with a nocturnal animal image. I chose to go for the cute option and made a card with a goggle-eyed stamped bat.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nOF8Z1o2gsg/VijfdYpU3gI/AAAAAAAAI-s/VsYUUo5nAb8/s1600/deniseprice.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nOF8Z1o2gsg/VijfdYpU3gI/AAAAAAAAI-s/VsYUUo5nAb8/s400/deniseprice.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">Supplies: orange paper & orange/cream striped paper from Authentique; gingham paper from Bella Blvd; purple dotted paper from Pebbles; dark blue dotted paper from American Crafts; light blue dotted paper, green swirl paper, & star stamp from My Mind's Eye; bokeh vellum from Webster's Pages; chipboard frame & enamel dots from October Afternoon; black gesso from Ranger; metallic green paint from DecoArt; ink from Hero Arts; bat stamp from Unity; laser-cut sentiment from ScrapMatt's; upcycled bubble wrap.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">On my blog I have a tradition of <a href="http://greendenise.blogspot.com/p/easy-destashing-ideas-for-2015.html">sharing a stash-busting idea</a> each month. This month, I'll be talking about the technique of layering. It's fun to do, it's a popular trend at the moment, <i>and </i>it helps you use up your stash of scrap papers. I used layering on this card in order to draw attention to my bat image, which is rather small. The layers behind it help it stand out and look important and interesting. I built up this layered mat using just scraps. This was a great way to use up lots of leftover bits of paper.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vIoGOLF1bGA/VijfaiyHcXI/AAAAAAAAI-Y/UP34SaVoah4/s1600/denise2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vIoGOLF1bGA/VijfaiyHcXI/AAAAAAAAI-Y/UP34SaVoah4/s320/denise2.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">I added a heavy coat of black ink to the edges of each of my paper layers. Not only does this play up the nighttime/darkness aspect of the challenge, but it also make the rich colors of the papers really pop.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GGY0GUPvhoQ/Vijfbv8nIjI/AAAAAAAAI-c/K785-T7vMYs/s1600/denise1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GGY0GUPvhoQ/Vijfbv8nIjI/AAAAAAAAI-c/K785-T7vMYs/s320/denise1.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">To add darkness to my card base, I randomly swiped on black gesso to make an interesting background. I also painted a scalloped chipboard frame with the same black gesso.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E1TgMyh39lQ/VijfckVBMtI/AAAAAAAAI-k/5x2m222Oudg/s1600/denise3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E1TgMyh39lQ/VijfckVBMtI/AAAAAAAAI-k/5x2m222Oudg/s320/denise3.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">My paper layers had a lot of green in them, so I felt like the chipboard frame and the background needed a touch of green, for the sake of unity. I added this green by stamping with bubble wrap and green metallic paint. After the paint was dry, I put my card together, first placing the layered papers on the card base, then adhering the chipboard frame, which I had dressed up with bokeh vellum and enamel dots. I topped it all off with the cute stamped bat, and I added a sentiment and a couple of stamped stars as well.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nOF8Z1o2gsg/VijfdYpU3gI/AAAAAAAAI-s/VsYUUo5nAb8/s1600/deniseprice.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nOF8Z1o2gsg/VijfdYpU3gI/AAAAAAAAI-s/VsYUUo5nAb8/s400/deniseprice.jpg" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">I'll leave you with one last look at the card. If you feel inspired, then go ahead and play along with the "Creatures of the Night" challenge at <a href="http://citycrafter.blogspot.com/">City Crafter Challenge Blog</a>. The challenge runs for a week. You have been waiting a long time to hear the end of my son's summer library saga. Although he finished visiting all the libraries in August, I've only now had a chance to document the adventure in my scrapbook. Below you'll see the scrapbook page that I made. A map of the libraries takes up a
large part of the page. The libraries highlighted in blue on the map are
those that my son visited in the summer of 2015, and those highlighted
in yellow are the ones that he visited in the summer of 2014. Twenty libraries visited in 2014 plus twenty-one more visited in 2015 makes a total of forty-one libraries. "41 and done!"</span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I've
only included one photo on this page, but it's a favorite of mine. There will certainly be more library-related scrapbook pages
forthcoming, because I have more library photos to put into my album.</span></span><br />

</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Northeast library is located in the "hipster" neighborhood of "Nordeast" Minneapolis, but this library is not only for hipsters. It's a very family-friendly place, with lots of play areas for kids. My son had fun spelling out messages with magnetic alphabet letters there.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">When I saw that the prompt for the <a href="http://citycrafter.blogspot.com/2015/09/city-crafter-challenge-blog-week-281.html">current challenge on the City Crafter blog</a> is "Geek Chic," I knew right away that I wanted to make something with my robot stamp. It's one of my favorite, most-used stamps. Since I use it so often, I decided to come up with a fresh approach this time. I took my inspiration from the "chic" part of the challenge title. For me, the word "chic" conjures up images of femininity and haute couture. So, I decided to give my robot stamp a ladylike look.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5qVTh_uw_E0/VhJ2DG167SI/AAAAAAAAI8A/WTMdSLKwr9Y/s1600/robo1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5qVTh_uw_E0/VhJ2DG167SI/AAAAAAAAI8A/WTMdSLKwr9Y/s400/robo1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8VA7epwlvzU/VhJ2uvGx1dI/AAAAAAAAI8I/OGqWtJhFt_I/s1600/robo2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8VA7epwlvzU/VhJ2uvGx1dI/AAAAAAAAI8I/OGqWtJhFt_I/s400/robo2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I started by stamping the robot lightly in grey ink. Next I sewed along the main outlines with dark grey thread and went over the smaller details with a fine-tipped black pen. Then I sewed a little hair bow and a tutu for the robot. I also added pretty pink Liquid Pearls accents for that extra feminine touch. Does Ms. Robot look chic? :)</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_1dA9pQEcrA/VhJ3R9qyKKI/AAAAAAAAI8Q/AU2xMx4fAe8/s1600/robo3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_1dA9pQEcrA/VhJ3R9qyKKI/AAAAAAAAI8Q/AU2xMx4fAe8/s400/robo3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The decorative swirls around the edges of the robot image are from a Unity stamp. I stamped them with black ink, and after it dried I added dabs of pink glitter.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3JNAkZTL0-I/VhJ4YU1ycSI/AAAAAAAAI8c/Pu4urtxUccs/s1600/robo4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3JNAkZTL0-I/VhJ4YU1ycSI/AAAAAAAAI8c/Pu4urtxUccs/s640/robo4.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">To play up the haute couture theme, I added sewing notions like straight pins, sequins, and a chipboard spool and buttons. I also tied some lush pink tulle through the hole of the tag.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BIH_jmho6SY/VhJ5TUFQIAI/AAAAAAAAI8w/VjK9_K3XOOY/s1600/robo6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BIH_jmho6SY/VhJ5TUFQIAI/AAAAAAAAI8w/VjK9_K3XOOY/s400/robo6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I finished the project by adding lots of layers to the tag. This project was a little different from what I usually do, but it was so fun. Moreover, it fits my personality really well, since I like both sci-fi and fashion. I definitely enjoyed the technique of embroidering over a stamped image, and it's something I'd like to do again in the future.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I have not included a supply list for this project, because such a list would be so long. However, I do want to mention that the album pages themselves are made of cardboard from food packaging, and I'm sure you can spot bubble wrap stamping, napkin decoupage, scrap collage, and glitter. Here are a couple extra detail shots that better show how the glitter on the pages catches the light.</span></span><br />

Therefore, we got excited when we came across pineapple-flavored Fanta for the first time. We split one bottle among the three of us, just to try it out, and we liked it. It was so syrupy-sweet that just 1/3 of a bottle was the right amount. </span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gc-E5n4eyOs/Ve71MVVAP6I/AAAAAAAAI4Q/xcNyw-DOC5U/s1600/fanta4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gc-E5n4eyOs/Ve71MVVAP6I/AAAAAAAAI4Q/xcNyw-DOC5U/s320/fanta4.jpg" width="213" /></a></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Of course I had to save that Fanta bottle cap and do something creative with it. I decided to make it into a sunflower. I used decorative tape and twist ties (from bread wrappers) to fashion a stem and leaves for the flower. It was a fun and symbolic embellishment to use on this scrapbook page about my son's growth in his martial arts class. </span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Photo booth is a fun app, and I love the silly pictures that it gave me. <span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">These are photos of a dragonfly necklace that I made in July. I also enjoyed finding interesting ways to photograph the necklace. </span></span><br />

As I mentioned in my previous post, my family went on vacation earlier this month. We traveled "up north" and visited three different state parks. Today, I'd like to share some of my vacation photos with you.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">Supplies: cardstock from Neenah Paper, orange patterned paper from Authentique, monster & plaid patterned paper from Bo Bunny, alphabet stickers from Lily Bee, enamel shapes from October Afternoon, paint from Deco Art, pens from Zig, upcycled bubble wrap & gift bow, household mini stapler.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Traveling north from the Twin Cities, our first stop was at <a href="http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/wild_river/index.html">Wild River State Park</a>. At this park we enjoyed taking in scenic views of the Saint Croix River and doing activities in the visitor center. I have even managed to scrapbook my photos from this park visit already!</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"></span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WiaG9pC82WQ/VeRWyOhmokI/AAAAAAAAI08/7qcz5nyuD4o/s1600/IMG_3594_v1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WiaG9pC82WQ/VeRWyOhmokI/AAAAAAAAI08/7qcz5nyuD4o/s640/IMG_3594_v1.JPG" width="480" /></a></span></span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">When we left the Twin Cities, we thought that we had left our library adventures behind; however, we discovered a delightful little library in the Wild River Park visitor center. I love the rough-hewn book shelves with the bark still on them. There was also a hot beverage station for the park's library patrons. I imagine that this cozy book nook is a godsend for campers who experience cold or rainy weather at the park and want to warm up for awhile. However, it was sunny and hot on the day that we visited, so we did not stop to read or have a hot drink. We only stopped long enough to admire the charm of the library.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"></span><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The weather did turn cold for us later in the trip, when we visited <a href="http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/banning/index.html">Banning State Park</a>. You can see that instead of shorts and tee shirts we're in long pants and sweaters. I have already scrapbooked this photo as well. I blogged about that scrapbook page in a <a href="http://greendenise.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-sunny-yellow-page.html">previous post</a>.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5tzPd9AaLv4/VeReWvj6OiI/AAAAAAAAI1o/s6s5IwiS_4s/s1600/IMG_3709.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5tzPd9AaLv4/VeReWvj6OiI/AAAAAAAAI1o/s6s5IwiS_4s/s400/IMG_3709.JPG" width="400" /></a></span></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We got rained on lightly during our last park visit, which was at <a href="http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/st_croix/index.html">St. Croix State Park</a>. Luckily, this park has a scenic driving path, so we were able to enjoy the park from the car. As you can see from the photo above, St. Croix State Park is a beautiful place for a country drive. I haven't scrapbooked this photo yet, but I hope to get to it soon. I'll be sure to share the finished page with you when it's ready. Until then, take care! </span></span>Denise Pricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04627425586228447868noreply@blogger.com21
