Scrap for Help April Reveal

Are you up for a challenge?  This month at Scrap for Help we want to see how you use old book pages on your layout.  Pictured below is my DT sample.  Can you find where I used book paper?

Supplies: background paper by My Mind's Eye; ruler paper, journaling cards, labels, flag, die cut words, & alpha-numeric stickers by October Afternoon; ribbons by Berwick Offray; die cut circles by Graphic 45; "Candi" faux brads by Craftworks; pen by Creative Memories; buttons upcycled from old clothing; used postage stamp; words in journaling cut from an old book.

I wanted to create a page about my son's creative problem-solving on a certain day, even though I did not have a picture from that day.  So, I used my son's school portrait, and I put special emphasis on my journaling.

I cut some words from an old Bobbsey Twins book, mounted the words on miniature label stickers, and incorporated them into my journaling.  The story, which is addressed to my son, reads: "You wanted to play with your telescope, but it was too cold outside.  So, you put the telescope at the end of the hallway, across from your corkboard.  You arranged the push-pins into constellation shapes and then "found" the stars through the lens, without going outdoors!"

I found a CRE8TIVE way to spell "creative."  :)

In the same way that my son used push-pins to mimic constellation shapes, I used Candi to mimic a constellation on my layout.

Pieces of October Afternoon ephemera and a used postage stamp reinforce the astronomy theme.

My way of creatively using old book paper is just a drop in the bucket.  You'll find more inspiration from the design team on the Scrap for Help blog.  I've also noticed the topic of upcycling book pages in recent posts on the blogs of Shimelle and Scrap 365--it's a hot topic!

If you like, you can combine the Scrap for Help challenge with the color challenge on our sister blog, The Color Room.  The palette for the first fortnight in April is this beauty...

...and there is also a bonus palette, which you can use all month, pictured below.  Ooh, it contains black and beige--perfect for incorporating pages of text from old books!

I look forward to seeing how all the challenge participants will incorporate this household material into their projects this month.  Happy creating!
