February Scrap for Help Challenge

Wow, we had a phenomenal response to our first Scrap for Help challenge of the year!  The participants blew me away with their beautiful, eco-chic projects.

Now it's a new month.  Please play along with our February challenge, which is up on the blog today.  Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to incorporate a plastic item into your project.  Scrap for Help is all about recycling, so this must be a recycled plastic object.

Supplies: word/alphabet stickers, mini ticket stickers, & camera patterned paper by Echo Park; all other patterned paper by October Afternoon; white pearlescent paper by Reminisce; decorative stickers by Doodlebug Design; chalk by Stampin' Up; ink by Clearsnap; Distress Stain by Ranger; pen by Zig; wire by Artistic Wire; upcylced envelopes, postage stamps, fruit netting, & clothing button.

Above you see "Food Fun," the sample layout I created for this challenge.  Can you spot the three ways in which I used plastic on this layout?

The journaling reads: "The family playroom at Como is the only place at the zoo where kids CAN 'feed' animals!"

Plastic has some properties that make it especially fun to incorporate into artwork:
  1. Sometimes it's clear (like the plastic windows in the envelope on my layout)--so you can place elements behind it (like patterned paper) and on top of it (like stickers).
  2. Sometimes plastic is flexible, so you can shape it--as I did by gathering plastic netting from fruit packaging to form a flower.
  3. Sometimes it's colorful and/or patterned--like the speckled shirt button that I used in the center of my handmade flower.

The Scrap for Help design team has even more ideas for you on the blog, and I'm sure that there are many more ideas for upcycling plastic that have yet to be discovered.  Join the challenge, and show us your ideas!  You have an added incentive for participating this month.  C'est Magnifique, the kit club/store that sells all those luxurious European papers, is our sponsor, and they are offering a generous prize.  Have fun creating!
